Featured Amazing Local Child

Becky is the typical 10 year old girl. She loves the Jonas Brothers, puppy dogs, shopping and boys! What makes Becky different is her bald head, and her pink crutches. Becky was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer 8 days before her 8th birthday.

Very early on, I called Becky a "Trooper" and the name has stuck. She is now known as Trooper Becky. Becky earned that name the hard way. Becky has undergone 10 surgeries, three different rounds of chemotherapy, and 7 different experimental trials. None of them have worked.

We are coming up to the holidays at the end of 2009 and we are praying that we make it through Christmas. Without a miracle, she will not see her 11th birthday, Easter, 4th of July, or any other holiday after Christmas.

Through all of this, Becky continues to smile. Her smile is contagious. You take one look at her and your heart does a dance. You can't help it! When you are fighting a battle for a child, you always stay positive, always have a smile on your face. We have been so fortunate in our journey. We have a great family, lots of great friends, and a fantastic community. They have all been there for our entire journey. One thing we believe is that Becky has help the children in our community become charitable people. They have learned acceptance. They have learned that just because someone is different, whether it be bald with crutches or anything else, they are still normal people on the inside. Can you imagine what these kids will be like when they grow up?

Our journey may be a sad one, but we have become closer with our family, friends and neighbors. Great things have come from such a little brave girl. We all love Becky very much and we hate to see her in pain, but we know in our hearts that she is rejoicing in all the good that she has been able to accomplish.
